Revving up dirt in Bukit Mendi

BERA: Some 98 bikers took time off to compete in a motor cross competition which was held for the second time in Felda Bukit Mendi here.

The event was jointly organised by the Bukit Mendi Youth Association and Bukit Mendi Motor Cross Club in its effort to curb illegal racing among the youths in the area.

Bera MP Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who was present to officiate the competition said, he was driven by the sincerity of the club members to organise a competition for positive purposes.

Ismail Sabri said such activities that would benefit youths and other bikers should be applauded and supported.

”More than six months ago this place was an idle land and now it is an international level motor cross racing track with serious efforts by the association and club,’’ he said.

Ismail Sabri said as a MP he would like to ensure the youths who have interest and passions in motor racing have a proper avenue to train.

”There is a plan for the competition such as this to be held yearly and I supported the idea because it encourages youths here to improve their skills.

”This track hopefully would pave way for them to take part in beneficial activities and produce positive results,’’ he said.

According to the association chairman Nor Azlin Abdul Ghani, the competition attracted some foreign riders from Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

While the locals were members from motor clubs including Kelab CMC Chemomoi, Kelab Panjang Workshop — Jempol (Negri Sembilan), Kelab Motor Bukit Mendi and some from other states including Terengganu, Kedah and Negri Sembilan.

Nor Azlin said the organisers were thankful to Ismail Sabri who initiated the track and supported the competitions financially.

She said the competition has attracted some 1,000 spectators who came to cheer their friends and relatives in action during the race.

She said there were five categories including cub cross, open classics, open veteran and open endurance.

In the cub cross category, Mohd Jasri Osman from Kelab CMC Chemomoi was first, Mohd Azrieen Ayob from Kelab Panjang Workshop, Jempol was second and third was Mohd Rizanni Abd Malek from Kelab Motor Bukit Mendi.

In the open classic category, Chan Yee Wah (Kelab BKZ) was first, followed by Faizullah Ahamad (Kelab Bukit Puchong) and Mohd Noor Hafiz Nordin from Abu Motosport Gentam Kuala Pilah.

In the open junior category, Norshamira Nor Azahar (Renjer Team Batu Gajah Perak) won first place, followed by Mohd Taufik Sabari (Mozat Agency Art Serve Melaka) and Muhd Sakhawi Mohamad (KMX Kemaman).

Nor Azahar Ismail (Renjer Team BT Gajah Perak) won the open veteran category while Chris (New Zealand) and Mohamad Nazri Abd Rahim (Orion Motor Kuala Lumpur) were placed second and third respectively.

New Zealander Robo Robinson from Robo 102 New Zealand, was first in the open endurance while Larry Blair from CBK Kawasaki, Singapore was second and Mohd Izzat Azwan from Kota Baru, Kelantan was third.

Prizes including cash money of RM700, RM400 and RM300 for the top three winners and hampers as well.
